About the role:

This is a technically interesting, multi-faceted role with two main aspects:

  • Technical training and curriculum development
  • Product development and project management

Joining an established development team of software and electronic engineers, you will help design and develop a wide range of products which support the teaching and learning of post-16 technical educational subjects such as engineering and science.

The development aspect will involve the complete product life-cycle from initial conception and market research through to development and production. You will perform a wide range of duties across our portfolio of products, helping to maintain existing products and developing new solutions.

Many of our products include learning resources related to vocational qualifications and the role will include the development of these resources. The role will also include some travel (mainly within the UK) to deliver technical training for our products to teachers at educational institutions.

Although not essential, the ideal candidate will have an interest in embedded programming experience and electronics.

About you:

We are looking for a passionate multi-skilled individual with good technical knowledge, excellent interpersonal skills and a 'can-do' attitude. You will be comfortable delivering training to external parties.

Whilst experience is useful, so too is enthusiasm, attitude and the ability to learn new concepts.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work to tight timescales
  • Translate subject specifications from awarding bodies into concise content to be used by teachers/lecturers
  • Write technical content, and develop engaging and interesting worksheets/examples to be used by students and teachers/lecturers
  • Deliver engaging face-to-face training on customers' premises (including occasional visits abroad)
  • Work with the R&D manager to specify and develop new products to satisfy identified gaps in our portfolio
  • Maintain and improve our wide range of existing products
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers

Essential requirements:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline within Engineering, Computer Science or similar
  • Passion for education that develops students intellectually and professionally
  • Willingness to embrace the use of technology
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good organisational and self-management skills
  • Ability to work using own initiative
  • A team player
  • Commercial awareness
  • A quick learner

Desirable requirements:

  • Relevant professional educational qualifications
  • Ability to use 2D and 3D design packages (e.g. Solidworks)
  • Mechanical, electronic or computing background
  • Experience of teaching and/or curriculum design in FE or HE
  • Subject experience within industry
