Hi Roberto
No, you can not use the ICD2 port of HP488 for ICSP. This port offered just for the connection of a Microchip ICD programmer, so that you can debug or program a PIC mcu mounted on HP488, using the MPLAB IDE. If you want to program a PIC mounted on the target board (your actual project PCB) using HP488, please take a look at this helpfull topic: http://www.matrixmultimedia.com/support/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=586
Best Regards
Fotis

Hi Roberto
Yes, the pinout of HP488 J5 header that you refers is correct!
Image
Probably you have confused from the picture of ICSP header besides the J5 header picture. This ICSP header is only included in the last Matrix Multimedia programmer EB006-v7 and is for connecting the newest inexpensive Pickit2 or Pickit3 programmers of Microchip. Though, EB006-v7 still does not offers ICSP capability through this connector
By any way, it is nice that you found the correct sequence of pins on your project board and is working :D
Thank you very much for informing me.
Best regards
Fotis

I am using a HP-488 with a PICF684 mounted in a target board. I have followed the above instructions including the link. When I attempt to program I get an immediate error "Could not ID the on board chip". LED 1 is continuously flashing and LA0 LED is on. I click ok, then i get the message "PICmicro has not been errased". Thanks, Howard
