*OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Hello
I have always added components in FC to the 3D panel. Last night I had some time I had the idea to play by importing a * .Obj file inside the 3D panel and here began the problem that involved me for almost 3 hours without having understood why it was not coming seen as the tutorials I read.
https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/f ... -made-easy
https://docs-emea.rs-online.com/webdocs ... 507ecd.pdf
By importing the Switch, I visualize the edges of a transparent square.
Also tried in the properties panel of the square to point directly to the folder where the file resided with indication Mesh but nothing.
Can I ask you what are the correct steps to make sure that you see the switch correctly like the tutorials?
Maybe I skip something?
It seemed so simple but it turned out to be a failure.
Also seen in the forum thing similar to Martin but I do not know if then after 1 year has solved and how.
viewtopic.php?t=18454
Thanks I hope in some advice

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Clarification, I have just done the same thing on another PC with FC8 Free and the * Obj file is successfully imported where initially the following appears asking for conversion to * Mesh file.
Why does not this happen on my PC ?

By doing some tests I only have the problem on FC7 and FC8 while FC6 works well.
What could to be blocked the utility that converts the * obj file to mesh ?

Hi Ferla,
I think it has slipped under the radar as I reported the same issue here
Probably due to V8 development?

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Hello,
Hmm thanks for raising this again. It' working for me in both v7 and v8 which points to some type of dependency problem.
We will investigate what could be going wrong.

Is v6 on the same PC as v7 and v8, maybe v6 packaged the dependency but it got removed for v7?By doing some tests I only have the problem on FC7 and FC8 while FC6 works well.

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Hello,
We've tried a number of PCs here and so far been unable to replicate the problem. We did change the system from v6 to v7 so maybe something has happened here.
Could the various dialogues be popping up behind the main Flowcode window or maybe off screen?
There is a "Open" dialogue which then opens a "Convert to Mesh" dialogue and once you click OK on this there is a third "Save As" dialogue.
Does Flowcode lock up at all when you click File -> Import 3D model in v7 or v8?
Here is the .mesh files with a demo project just in case this is all you need for now. I'll try on my home PCs tonight and see if any of them allow me to replicate the issue.

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Benj this happens:
File>Import 3D model , opens the window to search for the * obj file etc. at the same time I see the edges of a square on the 3D panel
I select my file exemple Switch.obj , click Open , for half a second, the popoup "wait" appears with the arrow as an attachment......subsequently it then it disappears and the edges of the square figure remain on the 3D panel.
I do not know if it can help you or hit the problem, I activated flowcode 7 and 8 off line. FC6 I do not remember it's been too long. Another difference FC6 activated with license name different from FC7 and FC8 which have the same activation name.
Thanks

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Hi,
This maybe a keeping in focus issue?
With V8 I also get: But then I noticed two icons for Flowcode on the task bar!
The Please wait remains until you select the other icon and convert to mesh appears.
After selecting convert: A save box appears.
After saving mesh it does appear for me with V8.
So working for me as well.

This was happening to me as well. Basically, it seems like that "convert to mesh" window appears behind Flowcode's main screen.medelec35 wrote:This maybe a keeping in focus issue?

No .. he immediately closes me the waiting screen and ends up showing me the edges of the square figure in the 3D panel.

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
I've just thought it might be something to do with the translation DLL, but I've tried it in Italian and it still works for me. This seems very strange.
Are you experiencing this problem on other computers or just one?

Hi Steve,
Also I thought it was the problem related to the translation I also initially , but this test had already been done by me.
It happens only on the laptop PC that I usually use, on the fixed PC no.
The PC never goes on the internet, and has very few programs installed versions of FC from V5 to V8. I do not like the PC I work from acquiring spam, cookies, viruses, etc.

Hi Ferla,
Sorry about this issue. Could you go into your Flowcode v8 install folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Flowcode v8), and then the subfolder "plugins", and then check that there is a file called "dll_models.dll"? Please also open the file properties and check that the size is 2,265,088 bytes.
Regards,
Daniel

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Hi Daniel
I checked that the dimensions are correct too 2,16MB (2.265.088 bytes).
I could try to replace some files by taking them from the other PC that installed FC8 free where it works. If you tell me what I have to do, I'll try this evening.

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Hi Everyone
Hope you don't mind me joining this thread, but I have had this problem for a while. I think I may have found a solution, that works for me, that may help. The RS Design Spark native file format for OBJ files, I have never got to work but by following these steps, it does.
- Open RS Design spark models and save as 3D Object as = stl within the options before hitting 'save' - I have included an example model PIR sensor module
- Import models and select 'ALL' files and select the chosen DS 3D Object.stl file (HC-SR501)
- there will be two windows now open as shown on your task bar. Select the 'Convert to mesh. Once the file has been converted to 'Mesh you should see the following:
Here is the file that RS Design Spark can open:
Hope this helps.

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Thanks Dave
I did as you said but the scrren of conversion does not appear.
The same thing as mentioned happens to me with FC7 ...... that strange.
I do not know the architecture of FC and so I do not know how to solve it. Maybe it's some DLL or something, but I do not want to shoot empty.

Hi Ferla
This may be worth a try. Have a look at your user account settings to see what level of control has been activated by your security settings - it should look like this if you are only using trusted applications:
If it is set the the one above, may explain why you are having problems. Its worth checking!
The higher level will block some background activity activated by some applications which causes strange behaviours.

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Hi Ferla. Hi Dave.
Thanks for your collective patience and assistance in trying to resolve this issue. It is always tricky to solve when the problem happens on one PC and we cannot replicate the fault ourselves.
The other things I would suggest is starting your PC in safe mode and seeing if that dialog appears. There is also sometimes a possibility that the dialog appears off-screen (you might be able to give it the focus using Alt-TAB and press "return", which would click the OK). And another thing to try is to temporarily disable and running anti-malware apps that can interfere with the normal execution of other applications.
Please let us know if anything you do does solve the issue.
Regards,
Steve.

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Hi Steve
Thank you for your quick reply. I have solved this issue regarding the dialog box, as it does appear for me on my computer on the task bar. It's just a matter of clicking on the task bar to get it to display. My initial problem was getting to recognise the file types produced by RS Designspark, but I am happy with the workflow solution that I am now using.

Re: *OBJ Design S. Mechanical to FC 3D Panel
Hi,
I tried all the solutions you proposed, the control user account was low, I have no antivirus installed, in temporary mode does the same thing, Alt-TAB only shows FC8 running no other hidden program .... I show you two screens the first showing the non-import of the Mesh because not converted, the other presents the mesh file.
I'm thinking of finding another program that can convert me the file to Mesh
Ferla.

Hi Ferla,
One more thing to try. I've attached a program that contains a component with relative links to the meshes. Please unzip the attachment somewhere on your PC, then load the FCFX file in Flowcode and let us know if the meshes are being displayed.
Thanks,
Steve.

Hi Steve
Many thanks for the test files, they defiantly reveal the problems I had with FC7. However, FC8 is okay for me.
Here is the results in FC8 Here is the result in FC7 Same computer setting for both

Hi Steve
Today I installed windows on new SSD disk again and made all the updates to check if the problem were related to updates. No program installed only FC8
The problem comes back, I also noticed this. The icons (Figure Find_Screen_Problem) are not displayed, they appear for +/- 100mS and then disappear.
New problem random Project option> Configure (Figure Refresh_Problem) while viewing the options the sceen disappears and reappears if you click the left mouse button. I move with the arrow of the mouse and disappears again
Thanks Ferla
