Microchip Technology promotes Flowcode with PICDEM™ Lab Development Kit

In March, Microchip Technology unveiled its new PICDEM™ Lab Development Kit (Part # DM163035). This entry-level development platform is geared towards first-time PIC® microcontroller users. Microchip has made a guide which takes advantage of Matrix Multimedia’s Flowcode graphical programming language to accelerate the learning process. For further details, click here

Stepper motors

This Knowledge Exchange article introduces the Flowcode stepper component, its capabilities, and some of the motor technologies that can be supported with a variety of Matrix Multimedia hardware.

Most standard stepper motors can be powered in one of four phases, each represented by the presence or polarity of the current flow in each of the motor coils. The number of phase changes required to complete a revolution determines the resolution of the motor (steps per rev). Half stepping is a common technique used to double the resolution of the motor.

The two main types of stepper motor under consideration are:

  • uni-polar (6-wire)           1 wire each from 4 coils + 2 common connections
  • bi-polar (4-wire)             2 wires each from 2 coils

Simple USB application using HID, VB and new EB055

In this month’s Knowledge Exchange, we explain how to create a portable Human Interface Device (HID). The computer driver information for a HID device is actually stored inside the memory of the USB device. This means that your device will run without modification on pretty much any of today’s computer systems: PC, MAC and even Linux.

”One of the most portable types of USB device is a Human Interface Device, as it does not require a driver file to connect and interface to your computer. The computer driver information …” read more
