What is MIAC?

MIAC – Matrix Industrial Automotive Controller is a fully specified industrial electronic controller designed to operate with typical industrial control voltages: 0-10V inputs, up to 24V motor outputs, 240V switching relays.

MIAC gives you the ruggedness and power of a Programmable Logic Controller with the flexibility and ease of programming a controller. Housed in an attractive rugged, anthracite grey plastic moulding, there are two physical mounting options: it can be mounted onto a 35mm ‘top hat’ DIN rail, or it can be mounted directly onto any surface using the 4 screw holes provided.

The idea behind the MIAC was to put electronic engineers in control. Instead of having to opt for controllers based on weird and wonderful systems, or devices which need to be programmed using block diagram or ladder-logic, instead engineers could now opt for a unit which had all of the capability required for rugged, industrial applications, but was easily programmable using C or even a software such as Flowcode.

The success of the MIAC has been clear to see in both industry as well as educational markets, with a range of educationally adapted ‘cased’ units being introduced to compliment a host of Matrix’s already existing educational learning solutions. In industry, multiple case studies exist of users who have used the capabilities of the PIC based MIAC for their real-world industrial projects.

Why Choose MIAC?

  • 8 analogue or digital inputs
  • 4 high current relay outputs
  • 4 solid state outputs
  • Range of processor platforms
  • Rugged
  • Used as a standalone PLC
  • CAN bus driven MIAC system

MIAC in Industry

The MIAC is electrically and physically compatible with a huge range of industrial accessories and expansion modules, from sensors to powerful motor controllers. MIAC controllers are based on a number of different microcontroller platforms – PIC, dsPIC, Arduino, Raspberry Pi – and can be programmed with a range of development tools. MIAC is fully compatible with our own Flowcode software ⟨PIC, dsPIC and Arduino⟩.

AllCode MIAC

AllCode is a new concept in programming. The AllCode MIAC is host independent and can be used with just about any programming software. The MIAC AllCode allows the various functions of the MIAC (Inputs / Outputs / Display / Keypad) to be available to a host processor such as a PC, Mobile Phone, Tablet or other devices such as Raspberry Pi. The AllCode functionality can be accessed via a wired RS232 or RS485 serial data connection. Bluetooth or WiFi versions are also available.

MIAC in education

The cased MIAC with 4mm shrouded sockets is internally connected to all of the input outputs of the MIAC ⟨except CAN bus terminations⟩, allowing rapid development of circuits based on the MIAC up to mains voltages. This is particularly useful in educational labs where a variety of 4mm equipment and components already exists. The MIAC unit has applications in Science, Technology, Electronics, Mechanical engineering, Automotive engineering and Chemical engineering.

We also have MIAC to work with a range of software, including Raspberry Pi and Arduino and the next couple of blog posts are going to talk more about the different types of MIAC we offer in more detail! Keep an eye out for more information!
