Gas flow meter/pressure and O2 measurement

Hello,
I would like to control a process where there are the following measurements
1. flow meter l/sec of Argon gas
2. O2 level
3. Argon pressure
4. I need to open and close electrovalves
5. raise an alarms and send a text and email

Can I have a bit more information about the sensors available to connect to the MIAC?
...and the costs.
Thanks
Giovanni

Sorry for no reply, but that's almost impossible to answer :D
there are so many things to consider,
Maybe a browse around our web site would help?
We are always willing to help, but more focused questions normally get answered the quickest

Hi Giovanni,

I would recommend that your starting point is to find industrial grade sensors that are suited to your task. For example the difficult bit is usually physically interfacing the sensor into the plumbing (pipework) of the system that you're trying to monitor. Given the industrial solution that you're looking for – I'm not sure if matrix will have anything that will physically work for you - however if you use Dr Google on the web I'm sure you will find what you're looking for.

Once you have found a suitable sensor the next step is to work out how to interface it into the MIAC from an electrical perspective. In my experience this is a relatively simple process

Most sensors are generally either one of the following interfaces
  • I2C
    SPI
    RS232
    RS485
    1-WIre
    Analogue
    CANBUS
If your centre has any one or more of these then a combination of the MIAC plus the advance modules will allow you to interface and collect data.

Alarming and output control from the MIAC is very straightforward as it has a number of output interfaces on the main body plus a whole range of industrial interfaces on the advanced expansion modules.

I have used both MIAC and the advanced expansion modules quite effectively – one of them has a SD card which you can use for logging purposes.

Have a look at the matrix website in the MIAC section for further information – is there some really good stuff in there including documentation and examples to get you started.

Also there are new my MIACs coming out (these have a greater range of interfaces on the main body) – it's worthwhile checking these out

Very interested to see how you progress with this – keepers posted and good luck

All the best

Pete

I recommend looking at Omron for gas flow sensors.
For example for smaller usage:
Omron D6F-N2/-L2 MEMS Flow Sensor

Or for higher capacity, there are RS485 Modbus Slave gas flow meters available, but at the moment i could not get the manufacturer to my head...

As a precaution, pure Argon is tasteless and smelless, so i recommend highly to keep away from cheap chinese ebay sensors. Its impossible for only human senses to notice a leak before its too late.

Hi Giovanni,

I too cannot stress more what Ets Driver has mentioned

they are just more hassle they they are worth and some can be dangerous

have a look on here we use them at work and they do allsorts of devices, just click from the product tree on the left-hand side
They are very helpful too if you are not sure what you are looking for and they do export also if you not in the UK .

THANK YOU!!!!
I am buying flow meter, pressure transducer with analog output and solenoid valve from OMEGA.
