EB006 compatibility

Post by jadiflow »

Hello,

I want to get an EB006 to replace my aging Picstart+ (I know!), but have two queries I can't seem to find an answer on:

- is the latest version (I think EB006V9) compatible with Flowcode 7?

- the brochure shows a socket for 28 pin devices as a large, wide (0.6 inch) DIL. Does that mean that for instance a PIC16F886 which is 28 pin but narrow (0.3 inch) DIL, cannot be programmed?

Thanks,

Jan Didden

Hi Jan,

It certainly is. In fact the Ghost features on the board (ICD & ICT) require Flowcode 6/7 to function.

The 28-pin socket is the narrow style socket (0.3 inch) DIL. Only the 40-pin socket is the 0.6 inch wide DIL type.

Ben, thanks for the reply.

Do you mean that the 28-pin, 0.3 inch wide socket is underneath the 40-pin 0.6 inch wide socket/chip shown as item 25 on page 5 of http://www.matrixtsl.com/resources/file ... 6-30-9.pdf ?

Hi Jan,

Yes the 28-pin socket is inside the 40-pin socket on the EB006 board, underneath the chip shown in the datasheet.

Thanks Ben - you guys are too clever!

BTW is there a metric about the programming speed for the EB006/9? Like how many bytes/second or some such?

Hi Jan,

We've had lots of practise

I think the programming speed varies from chip to chip based on how fast we can talk to the device and have the program reliably stick correctly. I know when we moved from an 8-bit host to a 16-bit host we had to add extra delays to get the PICs to program correctly due to the higher speed of the chip.

I'm just working with the ST ARM devices at the moment and these things seem to program in the blink of an eye.
