Hello Every one,

Thanks to Flowcode team specially Mr Enamul for finalizing my AVR using Flowcode ver5.
I need help to design a Solid State AVR using zero crossing detection technique, using Opto coupler and TRIAC.

Hello Mr beambase,

Thanks. 1st i have to design the Hardware before coding.
I have a Auto Transformer having Tapping of 61v,75v,91v,111v,135,164v and 200v.
Rest hardware i have to build after a final schematic is made.

Heres one i made and tested as part of an aquarium controler.
if you use it do the calcs and make sure its ok for your application, very simple with 3 inputs and outputs, was tested continually dimming a bulb ,and switching pumps for 48hrs and worked well

Right now i am little busy with a Unipolar Stepper Drive project,
this assignment is very urgent, so i will take up this project after

Hello
I don't fully understand how you are going to use the triac and how you will control them or what the circuit will do or look like in the end. But as I understand it you willuse the triacs to drive or feed different windings i a transformer. Maybe you alreday donethis but my experience is that you need to carefully look at the data on the tansformer and design the circuit so the triacs can handle the inductive load of the transformer.I don't understand if you are going to do some kind of phase angle control of the transformer orjust switch the windings on and off? What ever you chose to do, Iwould recommendthat you add some kind of snubber network. This will also help to control EMI and is a must if you are going to be anyware near the allowedlevels forelectromagnetic compabillity as stated in the CE directives.

Hello Beambase,
Thanks for the experience you have shared. Yes we are going to use snubber circuit and EMI protection circuit. But as SKS is currently busy with Stepper motor project I haven't posted any thing here. I will post schematic and block diagram of major unit of the system and definitely we will get some feedback from you.

Hello Mr Beambase,

Good Evening, Thanks for sharing your experience and helping us.
Mr Enamul has rightly said, we have not given much time on this project.
No doubt it will be a difficult project for me, you have guessed rightly, i am going to
use multi tapped transformer with multiple triacs.
The Transformer will play a vital role, of course the snubber circuit will be there.
As per me its will be a tough job for me.
As we are busy in other project, little time has spent on this.

Any way thanks for your suggestions and help, we will need your help in near future.

Hi SKS,
Steve, very helpful FC user wanted to post some of his ideas in this thread but he can't as he's a FCv4 user. I am posting that here on be half of him.
Steve says
I would recomend as this is been used in a AVR project that "block firing" technique is used as to prevent the device from switching off
at low loads, the thyristor drive circuit diagram was used in my HNC project ( a long time ago )
the firing pulse was "anded" with a 7200 Hz square wave to prevent turning off

The circuit diagram with the opto is just an "idea" AND IS UNTESTED

Dear Mr Enamul,

Thanks for the schematics.
Please add more details of the Transformer used in both the designs.
If its a home made, wire gauge, core specification, turns and all the parameters are required.

Hello,
I think that we need some more info on the tranformer before we can do a culculation on number of turns etc.

As i understand it is a autotransformer design you are looking for?
What is your maximun supply Voltage?
How many steps at what voltages do you need?
How many Amps do you want from it?
What space is available in your box? How big can it be?
Do you have any temperature restraints? Is it "office level" or is it to be used in a hot enviroment?
Is your box well ventilated?
Any other design requirenes like how it will be mounted to the chassie etc.?
Any special wishes for core shape or material?
Are you looking for any special class of insulation on the transformer?
Does it need to pass any standards like CE och UL?
