Hi Wayne.
As far as names go, we made the decision for PIC16 as this encompasses the PIC 16 bit chips. This is the 'platform' the chips exist on not the family of chips, and because you can access and probe the FCD files in your flowcharts we needed a consistent naming convention.
For PIC16 we have referred to PIC16, dsPIC, PIC24, PIC16_bit, PIC16bit and several others. This is just the one we settled on as it can also extend to 32bit.
