This chip looks very similar to the 2.4 GHz one I'm waiting for ( ) but it could be used for more long range applications.
My thinking was that if/when we get a component for the 2.4GHz modules then this one might be an quick and easy addition.

Just a though you may be able to modify the existing component , youd need to check both datasheets and see what code differences there are
