Proven to work with Arduino, using above resources.
You can get 2 x 16 and 4 x 20 versions etc.
Therefore will need to selectable, like to Grove LCD.

If I understand you correctly
Why not just use the existing LCD I2C (BACKPACK) component
I have used this many times no problems on LCD2004

All working with the Backpack component as you have suggested.
