Flowcode 6 and Windows 10

Post by SHORTCIRCUIT »

Hi
I just installed Flowcode 6 on a new computer I built running Windows 10 64bit.
The only problem is that Flowcode takes about a minute to load but run OK once loaded.
Is their a setting I'm missing to help flowcde load faster cause it seems really long.

New computer is using Intel I7 4Gh processor, and disk raid 0, 32Gigs of very fast ram.
Basically it is 4 times faster then my old computer. All my other programs run fine, just having issue with flowcode.

Compatibility troubleshooter set it to run as Windows 8 and 256 colors but this made no improvement to the startup.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thank you

Larry

Larry,

On my Windows 10 box (also 64 bit) it takes 10 seconds to start FC6. Could the delay be caused by a virus scanner?

Thanks you for the response.
I am not running any other protection besides Win 10.
I tried disabling virus protection, but it made no difference. I came up with 45 seconds startup time.

Hi Larry

Look in task manager to see whats using the most CPU percent. May give a clue. At first, Windows 10 does a lot of indexing and background updates which can slow things down but things speed up when most of these tasks are complete. Windows 10 has been shown to be very slightly faster than Win 7 on most tasks.

the system will be learning your habits and re-indexing things.

I don't know why but it started to load slow again.
It has something to do with Flowcode login at startup because both 5 and 6 do the same thing.

I've noticed that "Windows Defender Service" CPU usage now goes through the roof whilst Flowcode is loading on Windows 10.
That seems to be the current bottleneck. I don't recall this being an issue a few weeks ago.
Something to look into.

edit: Yep, turning off Windows Defender Real-time protection - load time drops from around 40 to 4 seconds

I'm no windows expert, but try this:

Find the Flowcode.exe executable (Program files directory)
Right click for properties and go to the "Compatibility Tab"
Click on the “Run compatibility troubleshooter”
and save the settings when done

Hi Leigh

Thank you for your response. You are right on.
I turned off defender and loading only took 4 sec.
I then added Flowcode 5 and 6 folders to the Defender exclusions found under settings
and Flowcode is now loading fast.

Thank you for your help

Hi
1.Looked at Task manager : process = boostc_16f.exe*32 is using 24% CPU

2.After clicking Cancel and Close the window task manager still shows 24%

eventually used end process to stop task
