RS485 communications
In this month's Knowledge Exchange, we demonstrate how the use of RS485 bus systems
can allow reliable transmission of signals and data in electrically noisy
environments. Transmission distances and data rates are greater than many of
the alternative systems, and example Flowcode programs show how simple networks
can be created.
“The RS485,
and the similar RS422, are communication bus systems using two wire
differential transmission of each signal. Differential transmission improves
the …” read more
Microcontroller Systems Engineering with Flowcode
This
holiday season, why not learn about embedded
systems the easy way. This book includes all the step-by-step
instructions you will need for make projects
such as a secret doorbell or a cell
phone remote controller. It covers topics such
as pulse width modulated motor
control, sound activated switches and creating
internet webservers. Best of
all, the source code is available for free to
download. Click here for more details.

Swapping compiler and programmer settings in Flowcode 4
Flowcode can be used with
many different programming tools and now can use different C compilers.
This Knowledge Exchange article will explain a relatively simple method of
producing registry script files which allows Flowcode users to swap between
different settings easily.
“Recently,
we have had quite a few requests to make it easy to swap between various
Flowcode toolchain settings. For example, a user may wish to test out the
HI-TECH compiler without erasing their current settings; or they may use a
variety of hardware boards which each need …” read more
Flowcode 4.2 update - now compatible with Microchip's HI-TECH C
Flowcode
versions V4.2 or later now come capable of generating code that is compatible
with Microchip's HI-TECH C. Click here for full details. All Flowcode 4 users can download this update by clicking here.
The perfect holiday gift
The technical specification of Formula Flowcode is impressive making it a
great fun way of learning about PICmicro 18 series microcontrollers. You can find loads of resources to help you on
our web site.
Formula Flowcode has internal precision motor
controller circuitry, 3 infrared distance sensors, line following sensors on a
separate circuit board, a buzzer, audio level sensor, light sensor, two spare
switch inputs, 8 user programmable LEDs, and various expansion buses -
including an E-blocks port.

Flowcode 4 for AVR coming soon
Following the recent
success of Flowcode 4 for PICmicro, Matrix will soon be releasing Flowcode for
AVR. This well featured version is a great step forward in design, functionality
and ease of use, but it will support many more chips. In the next edition of
E-news, we will tell you all the details.
