The section bellow contains an assignment for you to complete. This can be printed out for your own use.

A manufacturer of electronic switches has asked you to advise on the design of the transistor switching circuit shown in the figure. If the transistor has a common-emitter current gain of 200 and a nominal base-emitter voltage of 0.65 V, determine:

  1. The value of collector current required to operate the relay
  2. The value of base current required to operate the relay
  3. The maximum value of the base resistor, R
  4. The nearest suitable value of resistor for R taken from the E12 series
  5. The power developed in the relay coil when the relay is operating
  6. The input signal power when the relay coil is operating.
