University Technical Colleges were introduced as part of the Academies Programme several years ago. Since then, more than 40 have been set-up across the country.
UTC’s as they’re known each have specific specialism’s, which are generally linked closely to employment needs and requirements in the areas in which they have been established. Furthermore, UTC’s are always sponsored by University’s and industrial businesses, meaning the 14-18 year olds who attend these institutions are given the opportunity to seamlessly progress into higher education or employment.
Over the past three or four years, here at Matrix we have been successful in supplying training equipment to a number of UTC’s across the country. The first UTC’s we worked with were UTC Reading and Silverstone UTC who opted to make use of electrical/electronic engineering solutions and automotive training solutions respectively.
Since then, we have become one of the most sought after kit suppliers for engineering focused UTC’s who are looking for industrial standard, high quality, affordable equipment which gives their students maximum £ -per-learning-hour resources for developing their skills as the engineers of tomorrow.
In recent months, UTC Leeds whose sponsors include the Unviersity of Leeds, Siemens and Unilever were the latest UTC to come on board with using training solutions for the AQA Level 3 qualifaction in Mechatronics. During the consultation with the engineering team at Leeds, we were able to determine which of our well supported resources would be most suitable for their students level of knowledge and understanding and give them a high volume of training kit at a reasonable cost. What’s more, we have ensured all of the key requirements are taken care of; storage for the solutions, training, curriculum and courseware and the like.
Andrew Mangham, Engineering Lecturer gave us his thoughts;
“Although we are only at the beginning of our mechatronics journey at UTC Leeds, the systems provided by Matrix are already proving invaluable. Pupils have very quickly been able to access industrial standard applications whilst seeing their relevance to the everyday products that they are familiar with. As a teacher it is very easy to follow the courseware Matrix provide, whilst still having the freedom to use the systems independently.”
