A new range of products, our OptoSci training packages are designed to give universities and colleges an immediate solution to the provision of comprehensive and stimulating lab based courses in key areas of photonics technology, particularly in the fields of optics, fibre optics and optical fibre communications. Each educational solution is designed to examine the fundamental principles, key technical issues and applications of the technology. The packages include all required optoelectronic hardware with extensive curriculum support and saves the tutor significant course, literature and system development effort.
OptoSci works in close collaboration with senior academic staff at Strathclyde and Heriot-Watt Universities to develop its photonics teaching packages in accordance with a strict design philosophy. This approach defines the educational objectives in the context of the associated lecture course, formulates the experimental investigation to achieve these objectives, and is followed by the design of custom hardware and preparation of comprehensive supporting literature to enable that investigation.
Each OptoSci teaching package is fully self-contained incorporating all of the optical / optical fibre components and optoelectronic instruments required to perform the experiments. In addition, extensive literature support is provided including: student manuals which describe the relevant background theory and experimental procedures; instructor’s manual with sample results for all experiments; detailed background / lecture notes with case studies, design exercises and tutorials with solutions.
OptoSci's educator kits are used extensively in higher education institutions throughout the world and allow detailed investigation of a broad range of exciting areas of photonics technology like: geometrical & physical optics, optical waveguiding, fiber optics, optical fibre components, fibre optic communications, BER, DWDM systems, Bragg gratings, EDFA, fibre amplifiers, lasers, OTDR, optical networks and fiber sensors.
