A disc specimen is clamped firmly on top of a hardened die, and it is then raised onto a punch.
As all three parts come into contact, the punch starts to move into the die, taking the disc material with it, and forming a cupped shape.
Applications
- Sheet metal forming
- Plastic deformation
- Cupping
- Deep drawing
Learning capabilities
- To obtain a value for the samples so that a comparison can be made to determine the suitability of the sample for the drawing process.
- To use the Erichsen cupping index value as well as other results obtained from the experiment to compare samples and their properties.
