The shearing device sits in between the compression area of the UTM.
There are two main components to the shear device. The lower shear support and the shear anvil. The lower shear support is symmetrical and has a central slot to accept the shear anvil and a through hole to accept the specimens. Hardened inserts are used, one of which can be removed for the unsupported element of the experiment.
The specimens supplied are copper.
